February Newsletter.... According to MLB, today you can dare to dream. The East Lyme Babe Ruth board has been doing more than dreaming, they’ve been working to put together another successful season for the players and their fans. Please take a moment to learn what’s been happening and set the important dates noted aside on your calendar.

Player Evaluations   Barring inclement weather and field conditions, we intend to hold Player Evaluations on Saturday, March 27 at Veterans Field. A rain date has been set for Sunday, March 28. We ask you to please reserve the afternoon on both these dates as it is important for coaches have the opportunity to view all players to assess skill levels. We’ll begin with practices as soon after teams are set as possible, and so we look forward to afternoons on the field coming up soon!
Of course, we once again ask players to please return any old jerseys at the evaluations.

Registration for Season I and/or Season II       13-15 Division

At this time, all live registrations have taken place
Mail-in registrations will be accepted through February 28
after which players will be enrolled
on a space-available basis and may be placed on a wait list.

There are many choices for baseball in Southeastern Connecticut today, and East Lyme Babe Ruth respects the opportunities of these varied levels of play and commitment including school teams, travel and AAU teams, and American Legion Baseball. Perhaps you are considering playing on one of these teams this year, and we wish you the best. If, however, you are considering playing with EL Babe Ruth during either the Season I or Season II, we ask you to please register now so that we can make accurate arrangements for equipment, uniforms, coaches and administrative requirements with the national Babe Ruth organization.  For registration details click here. If you have any questions that are not addressed on the website, please contact me.

Coaches, Volunteers, Parents, Fans … The next meeting for East Lyme Babe Ruth will be held in the Chendali Room of the East Lyme Community Center on Wednesday, March 10 at 7:00 p.m.  Everyone is welcome at the ELBR meetings, and we encourage you to join us to volunteer, provide feedback, or just listen in to hear what’s really going on.
A Note to Coaches: Anyone who is interested in coaching a team for either Season I or Season II should make special effort to attend this meeting. If you are unable to attend, please be in touch with me at your earliest convenience. Reminder: Coaches Certification is required by the national Babe Ruth organization. Click here for more information regarding the on-line training, which will also be discussed at the March 10th meeting.

Other Interesting Baseball News:
The schedules for the following school teams have been posted on the ciacsports.com website: Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School, Old Lyme High School and East Lyme High School. Changes to the baseball schedules frequently occur, so set the site to your favorites if you’re interested, or register your e-mail address at the site to receive schedule updates.

What a winter it’s been so far. It’s seems to be the consensus of most that spring will be a welcome change, and with that will come baseball. Please keep in touch, attend our March 10th meeting if you can, and give our board and volunteers your support.
