August Newsletter ... Take a look at the August Newsletter for information about Fall Baseball (YES, there will be Fall Ball), Summer Ball, Suisman-Shapiro 16-18 Team, and more …

FALL BASEBALL  Fall Ball registration begins TODAY … if you’re so inclined, register no later than the end of the month by mail or join us at one of our live registration sessions noted below. These are fun pick-up style evenings to get the kids loose while mom or dad complete the registration process.

PLAYER ELIGIBILTY
Residence: Players from the towns of East Lyme, Niantic, Lyme, and Old Lyme
Residents of Salem should register with SYBL for Fall Ball play.
Age: 12-15 (born May 1, 1993 through April 30, 1997 – this includes 2009 Little League “graduates”)

FORMAT & SCHEDULE  All ages play together during the fall ball season. Players new to Babe Ruth and the big field will find that this format is a great opportunity to become familiar with some of the new rules and to begin to adapt to the new field size. The older, more experienced players not only take on a leadership role but also take advantage of staying loose and keeping their skills in tact in this low-stress environment.
Games will begin Saturday, September 12 and will be scheduled through October 31. Families should expect nearly all games to be scheduled on the weekends at Vets Field, and double-headers are likely.

MAIL-IN REGISTRATION – no later than August 31   Download the ELBR registration form and mail along with payment to:
ELBR FALL BALL
PO BOX 102
EAST LYME CT 06333
The mail-in option closed as of August 31

LIVE REGISTRATION / OPEN FIELD SESSIONS   Attend one of our live registration/open field dates:
Tue. Aug. 25     6:00-7:30 at Veterans Field, Niantic
Thurs. Aug. 27 6:00-7:30 at Veterans Field
Thurs. Sep. 3   6:00-7:30 at Veterans Field
Feel free to bring your bat and glove for some open field time: take some batting practice, maybe even get in a pick-up game.

Players who register after the conclusion of the September 3 session will be enrolled on a space-available basis and may be placed on a wait list.

FEES   $70 per player, $30 per sibling. Please make check payable to East Lyme Babe Ruth.

Summer Pick-Up Games    Chris Donahue is coordinating summer pick-up games. All players must have been enrolled in the 2009 regular Season II in order to be eligible. Games will be played at 10 am (9:15 warm up) on Saturdays, August 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. If you would like to participate in Saturday pick-up games, please contact Chris at or 860-691-9340.

Suisman Shapiro 16-18 Baseball    The East Lyme Babe Ruth 16-18 division of baseball team Suisman Shapiro enjoyed a very successful season. The crew of talented players, led by Jay Berryman, Jerry Windsor and with assistance from Lori McKinney, worked hard to finish first place in the league. Although the playoffs didn’t work out as they’d have chosen, I know the team had a lot of fun and made the most of their summer season. Congratulations to the Team Suisman Shapiro!

What’s ahead for East Lyme Babe Ruth . . .

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend!

Upcoming Elections for Officers   East Lyme Babe Ruth is in great need of volunteers to fill the following offices:

The election of officers will take place at the October meeting.
Please consider taking on one of these roles as they are vital in the effort to provide baseball to the youth in our region. I know that you will find it rewarding! Please contact me if you have any questions about the upcoming elections or volunteering with East Lyme Babe Ruth.
